What is a Caffeine Withdrawal Headache?

Caffeine withdrawal is associated with a number of symptoms, but the most common is the caffeine withdrawal headache. When your body is accustomed to an early morning dose of caffeine, you will be punished if you don’t keep up with it.

What causes caffeine withdrawal headaches?
The simple answer is obviously caffeine withdrawal, but more specifically:
Caffeine alters the blood-flow within your brain. In fact, someone suffering from caffeine withdrawal is actually exhibiting increased blood-flow in certain parts of their brain. Normally, this would sound like a good thing, but when you’re struggling your way through a headache you probably won’t be happy.
It won’t take long to subside, but there are things you can do to help reduce the pain.
How do you cure a caffeine withdrawal headache
As with any other headaches, there are no real easy cures. But there are a few measures you can take to help yourself feel better when suffering through a caffeine withdrawal headache.
Drink water. Water is the first natural remedy you should try for any type of headache, caffeine withdrawal headaches being no exception.
Take a nap. If you’re able to sleep through a headache, it will usually be gone by the time you wake up. Look at sleep as the “headache reset button.”
Peppermint. While using a mint leaf as a cure for headaches may sound like a bunch of nonsense, it has been shown in some minor studies to help prevent headaches. And even if it doesn’t work, you can bet on the placebo effect.
Tylenol or acetaminophen. This is the only caffeine withdrawal headache cure that’s certain to work, but that’s because they cheat. Tylenol contains caffeine.
So if the headache is too severe for you to handle, it is an easy way to get a small controlled dose of caffeine without having to get “back onto the coffee habit,” but it’s definitely cheating.
Do caffeine withdrawal headaches make quitting caffeine difficult?
When you use a proper program for helping yourself quit caffeine, your headaches will be limited. Some people report having no headaches at all while following a proper routine to phase caffeine out of their diet.
